For most social networks, the 25-34 age group has control, but not by much. Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest fall into this category. Millennials age 18-24 consist of the most users on SmapChat, Vine, and Tumblr. LinkedIn is the odd-one out, with 35-44 year olds leading the way.

What marketers should take away from this chart is the content they push out on each social network should relate to its key demographic. Although Facebook, Twitter & Linkedin can be linked as an example, posting the same copy and link on twitter, for example does not mean it will perform the same on Facebook or LinkedIn. Businesses should also be inspired by this chart to think outside the box and create content that different age groups will enjoy. There are ways for even the most boring companies to produce engaging content. Yes, even on Vine and SnapChat too!

This also might show marketers that the 65+ crowd is not too strong on social. Rather than spend the time and money to reach 65+ individuals, perhaps other marketing efforts, such as direct mail or email newsletters, are the best option. At the very least, this chart should make marketers think twice about the content they are producing, the channels they are using, and the types of users each social network has.

Herein we will discuss Facebook.com or fb.com as an example for marketing. Did you know that Facebook now ranks second for traffic generation among all the websites on the Internet? It is second only to Google in terms of the traffic it gets. If either were countries they'd be tied for third in population, next to China and India, with a population of 1BB each. And yes there are Chinese counterparts which add another at least 0.5BB+.

Right now, there are approximately 500 million active users on Facebook, and the number is increasing with each passing day. Think about it. This kind of population, as mentioned is more than most countries of the world. In fact, there are only two or three countries that have a population higher than that! Facebook also has plans in place to connect the other 2/3rds of the world to the internet as we know it, for additional future growth.

Online marketers have been quite quick to latch on to the immense popularity of Facebook. They know that if they make a presence here, they are opening their business out to the world—getting global exposure in a way that they cannot do by anything else. Studies show that the number of Facebook users have increased by one-fourth over the last year in 47 countries. Naturally, no online marketer worth their salt is going to let this opportunity pass. This has given rise to the concept of Facebook marketing.

Most of these online marketers who are making the most of Facebook marketing know the relevance of projecting their profiles in a particular way. That is evident because these people are looking beyond simple social networking. They are trying to build acreditable network, a fan base for their business that they can tap into for their business profits.

One of the things that they do is to create a professional business page for themselves instead of the routine profiles that people create on Facebook. These professional pages give out a no-nonsense impression of their business to their target niche. Infact, with the help of recent applications like FB Maxed, it is possible for Internet entrepreneurs to place their entire website onto their Facebook profile. This helps them create the right impression in their market and they can even make these websites with clickable URLs so that interested people can go and visit the real thing. With the great popularity of Facebook, the concept of Facebook marketing has gained in strength as well.
