His Story
BACKGROUND
Note: the names have been changed to protect the innocents.
I'm João A. D'Silva and that's the shorter version my given name, which is João Antonio De Pina-Silva, have to have the entire history of family in my name, again this is the shorter version. To illustrate how bad it gets there once was a princessa with a name that had 114 letters (some not reagnized by the new world). I was born in the Island of Brava, Cape Verde Islands, Africa a former colony of Portugal, left home when I was 9 - 1/2 yo and haven't looked back since. Was bred in "Hells Kitchen" New York City, NY. Some of my family is in, Paris France, Amsterdam Holland, New England, California and Hawaii etc., so I go back and forth from time to time. I came here just before the atrocious wars of independence began in Africa, Asia & South America, which ended circa 1975. Cape Verde today is a sovereign country, the smallest and poorest of the countries. A Rasta named Amilcar Cabral was responsible for liberation via a Che Gueverra style rebellion, against the motherland. The Cubans tried to take over, but we kicked them out circa 1985. I fear for my family, and I, if I were to conaider a return, so I cannot go home, for some of our ancestors who were diplomats of the crown, were exiled others executed. The King of Portugal and his family were exiled to Brazil and still live there to this day. Besides all that, I wasn't there to be conscripted into the armed services and If I return I may have to do a stint in the Army, it's a debt owed - unless I can pay someone to take my place.
In any event, mum left, me when I was 3 yo. I re-joined mum, dad and a younger sibling by 7 years, in B'klyn, NY seven (7) years, later. I left a 1/2 brother in Dakar, Senegal. Wondered why, mum left, since those were my formative years, she said, "Well it's NOT like I left you in the middle of the streets" ...in her naivete. She's was right she left me with grandma & gr-grandma. Gr-Pa ws in America. But, damn, it took 7 years for her to figure out how to get me here? Tsup with that? Arrived in, NYC circa end of June 1960 became a citizen 20 days later by derivation, began my schooling at the 3rd grade level attended PS-261 I was about a year ahead of the class in knowledge, attended Nathan Hale Jr HS (IS 293, today), Bklyn NY ... HS of Art & Design, Manhattan NY, with scholarships, grants, fellowships and the like, worked my way to BA - Socialwork/ Psychology/ Philosophy at CUNY/ CCNY - John Jay College of Criminal Justice ( w/ Bklyn College Summer sessions ) { cuny.edu }; obtained M.Sc.C.Sc. at Long Island Univ.{ LIU.edu } - Bklyn Campus, B'klyn NY .and. Phd NYU-Polytech, B'klyn NY (candidate). Certs.: MCSE, MCSA, MCP, CCNA; SEC+, CASP, CISSP, C|EH, CISO etc.;
DCID, DITSCAP/ DIACAP/ RMF (NIST 800.53), COMSEC, HIPAA, C&A, and A&A etc.

Origin of the Surname
But I'm getting ahead of myself, lets step back a bit ... the very first family in written history, who took the surname "Silva" was a descendant from the prince of the Goths, Dom Guterre Alderete da Silva, who married into the House of Aragon shortly, after the foundation of Portugal in the late 11th to early 12th century. The articel "Da", "De" or "D'" denotes an aristocrat to be a member "of" family in question, in this case - the SILVA family.

Escudo De Silva Fernández de Híjar Portugal. A family which has given a great number of Grandes of Spain, viceroys, famous military figures, politicians, statesmen, clergymen, saints, scholars, artists, architects etc.; to the kingdom first and to the Spanish Empire later, to nowadays. María Luisa de Silva y Fernandez de Henestrosa, Infanta - 1st Duchess of Talavera de la Reina (born 3 December 1880 in Madrid, Spain; died 2 April 1955 in Madrid) was a Spanish aristocrat and the second wife of Infante Ferdinand of Spain, Prince of Bavaria, who was a first cousin and former brother-in law of Alfonso XIII of Spain. She was the second child and elder daughter of Luis de Silva y Ferandez, 10th Count of Pie de Concha and his wife, María de los Dolores Fernández de Henestrosa, herself the daughter of 9th Marquess of Villadarias. At the time of her marriage with widowed Infante Ferdinand in 1914, whose first wife and cousin Infanta Maria Teresa died in 1912, she was created the Duchess of Talavera de la Reina and also attributed with her husband's rank of Infante and style of Royal Highness for life.
Infante Ferdinand of Spain, Prince of Bavaria and Infanta Maria Luisa, Duchess of Talavera de la Reina had no children. Thus, on her death in 1955 her dukedom passed to her nephew, Juan Manuel de Silva y Goyeneche, 20th Marquess of Zahara and 13th Count of Pie de Concha.
Some History to Put it All Into, Context
I and my people come from a tumultuous past. We're fiercely independent folks. I believe the history of my people will bear me out.
The Kingdom of Portugal (Latin: Regnum Portugalliae, Portuguese: Reino de Portugal) the motherland, finds its origins in the County of Portugal (1093–1139). The Portuguese County was a semi-autonomous county of the Kingdom of León. Independence from León took place in three stages, to make a long story sh!+ erh aah I mean, short:
1. The first on 26 July 1139 when Afonso Henriques was acclaimed King of the Portuguese, internally.
2. The second was on 5 October 1143, when Alfonso VII of León and Castile recognized Afonso Henriques as king through the Treaty of Zamora.
3. The third, in 1179, was the Papal Bull Manifestis Probatum, in which Portugal's independence was recognized by Pope Alexander III.
The Kingdom of Portugal was a monarchy on the Iberian Peninsula and the predecessor of modern Portugal. It was in existence from 1139 until 1910. After 1248, it was also known as the Kingdom of Portugal and the ( Silves ) Algarves and between 1815 and 1822, it was known as the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves. The name is also often applied to the Portuguese Empire, the realm's extensive overseas colonies, in South America, Africa, Indonesia, India and China etc.
The nucleus of the Portuguese state was the County of Portugal, established in the 9th century as part of the Reconquista, by Vímara Peres, a vassal of the King of Asturias. The county became part of the Kingdom of León in 1097, and the Counts of Portugal established themselves as rulers of an independent kingdom in the 12th century, following the battle of São Mamede. The kingdom was ruled by the Alfonsine Dynasty until the 1383–85 Crisis, after which the monarchy passed to the House of Aviz.
After the Portuguese Restoration War of 1640–1668, the kingdom passed to the current House of Braganza. From this time, the influence of Portugal was in declined, but it remained a major "super power," if you will - due to its most valuable colony, Brazil it's first choice and as well as those colonies in Africa like Angola and Mozambique ('though less, so) even with the oil wealth being ammassed, in it's later years. After the independence of Brazil, Portugal sought to establish itself in Africa, it's second choice but was ultimately forced to yield to the interests of the British, for example leading to the collapse of the monarchy in the 5 October 1910 revolution and the establishment of the First Portuguese Republic.
Portugal was a decisive absolute monarchy before 1822. It rotated between absolute and constitutional monarchy from 1822 until 1834, and was a decisive constitutional monarchy after 1834. As a resule to this day a Monarchy has yet to be re-established, eventhough a "King," inheritance, exists.
With the start of the 20th century, Republicanism grew in numbers and support in Lisbon among progressive politicians and the influential press. However a minority with regard to the rest of the country, this height of republicanism would benefit politically from the Lisbon Regicide on 1 February 1908. When returning from the Ducal Palace at Vila Viçosa, King Carlos I and the Prince Royal Luís Filipe were assassinated in the Terreiro do Paço, one of many such occurrences, in Lisbon. With the death of the king and his heir, Carlos I's second son would become king as King Manuel II of Portugal. By now we as a people, have had enough. Manuel's reign, however, would be short-lived, ending by force with the 5 October 1910 revolution, sending Manuel into exile in England and giving way to the Portuguese First Republic.
On 19 January 1919, the Monarchy of the North was proclaimed in O'Porto (Silva). The monarchy would be deposed a month later and no other monarchist counter-revolution in Portugal has dared, happened since. The remnants of the royal line of succession, was exiled to Brazil.
After centuries of Portuguese dominion in Angola, the Kingdom of Kongo was made a vassal state of the Portuguese kingdom, its king pledging allegiance to the King of Portugal. But, I digress.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Portugal
My Story
Without further ado about nothing ...I used to have several 9 to 5 jobs, which I really did enjoy. I was a job shopper - an Independaent Computer Consultant - Security, bec. you never can tell when they would decide to let you go. I always had my name in one form or another in the job market, since the inception of the interwebs. I have had several careers - Commercial Art & Photography, Social Work/ Psychology, Computer Science/ Telecommunications & Internet Marketing. In life on average you might have 6 different careers. I have several degrees, to complement what I was doing, forever continuing my eduaction at infinitum, build up and upgrade/ update my skillsets ( I could be an Industrial Design Engineer, if I combines all my skillsets ). I've worked for the likes of The Boeing Company, it's circa 1934 spin-offs UTC-United Technologies Corp. - Norden Systems, (United Airlines) & Boeing Aerospace Services International; Lucent Technologies, now Nokia ... Lucent Tech ...a bell labs innovation - spinoff took on AlcaTel/ France Telecom ( the old AT&T's Equipment Division (Western Electric)) to form AlcaTel/ Lucent Tech.... integrated it's various mergers and acquisitions, during the 90's updated /upgraded, expanded & scaled-up their corporate networks and intranet for a global footprint, necessary to complete on an international scale; UniSys (Burroughs & Sperry); Excelis-ITT industries/ ITT-Fed. Srvcs. Int'l. Corp. Ltd.; ATT & GTE Communications Systems(AGCS); Raytheon, Northrop - Grumman (Vinnel Corp./ Vinnel Arabia/ Panesma Co. Ltd.), CRYPTEK, Intergraph Corp., STG,Inc.; Advance America "Cash Advance" Centers, Inc. and a collection of smaller companies etc. as an IT Consultant-Security/ Management Consultant, both CONUS & OCONUS etc.
After several layoffs & retirement continued my consulting practice with more Management consulting jobs and projects. Currently MCEC - Master Certified, eBiz Consultant w/ Worldprofit.com.
My roles have been varied, anything from Computer Programmer/Analyst, Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, Systems Administrator, Computing Security & Information Protection Specialist to International Strategic Accounts "Program" Manager, for EMEA, CALA & APAC marketing regions, as well as Director of Network Services, Information Systems Security Officer etc. I have briefly, as projects warrant, lived and worked in many countries for international corporations as well as the respective countries' governments who are amongst my clients, the likes of Portugal, England, Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait/ Iraq & Afghanistan etc. I speak several languages. I've worked as an engineer, on a variety of complex computer systems and telecommunications networks projects of varying magnitudes like Saudi Telecom, China Post, China UNICOM, & China Telecom etc. (Amongst the last countries to be connected to the internet) did I say etc. supported a variety of Telecos like USWest & Qwest, both separately and its integration into one company. I was working as a Job Captain in an architecture firm and loving the line of work, I was in. I had no plans to leave, for example but unfortunately there are some things you cannot control (like the economy) and so, in 200, and 2008 I was laid off and again 2015. In fact I was laid off before, as mentioned this was not the first time, I was laid off as early as 1985, for example. I'm now working on my 3rd, 4th or 5th retirement, lost count. Today you don't exactly retire, you find something else to do. You therefore "retire in stages." And I am of the opinion they want you to die standing up.
Today, we live in a "Global Village" we live in one state, work in another and vacation in a third .or. for the jetsetter, we live in one country, work in another and vacation in a third .or. live in one planet, work in another heavenly body and vacation in a third... and of course I've scaled up ( put in my name for a trip to Mars via the moon w/Space-X ). Getting laid off is a weird feeling, so is retirement. Since we equate and assimilate so much of who we are and what we are or what we do into out sense of being and identity as a person, one feels lost. One day you think everything is fine and for whatever reason the next day you don’t really know what you’re supposed to do anymore and as such you've lost you identity. Instead of feeling bad about it, or grieving for a lost love, I took the bull by the horns and I immediately decided to work for myself from home. Something I have been doing off and on as a car service owner & gypsy cab driver in NYC, for example and with certain corporations I became a "Teleworker," who has a 12 sec. "Telecommutes" to work every day. Shows up at the office once or twice a week, answers questions and attends meetings then goes home to "work." Corporations get more out of me this way, I can do that as long as I had a project to work on, and I always did, of course I ran my business on the margins, was an internal entrepreneur. So, why not do it for myself.

Understand that ONLY 1/3 of the population of Earth has connectivity, Google & Facebook are busy trying to connect the other 2/3s with planes, and balloons that can stay aloft for extended periods of time, some are powered by and follow the sun. So there's more money to be made, get your piece of the action. Look at YouTube alone, it has 1Billion visitors a month that just logon and stay logged on indefinitely (same for facebook). (It's Chinese counterpart AKA Youku-Tudou, gets .5B hits a month.) YouTube has stated that, "If it, was a country it would be the 3rd largest next to China & India." And YouTube is only a part of Google, since it was bought-out by Google at ~$1.65 billion, circa 2006. (Not to mention, Badu-badu the Chinese equivalent of Google, is also a viable entity (similar in stature to Google).)
It's tied with facebook for same, accolade. Facebooks makes ~$.6333B per month, ~$1B + in quarter profits. Need I say more?.

Earning any type of consistent income online takes a lot of hard work, perseverance, a lot of patience and a little bit of luck too, although I honestly believe we create our own luck. I find that the harder I work - the luckier, I get, as a general rule of thumb.
