I differ with this account in that there was an ealier individual whose family adopted the surname, a General in the Roman Army named Silva, commander of the Legionnaires - Legio X Fretensis, circa 72 AD. Lucius Flavius Silva Nonius Bassus was a late-1st-century Roman general, governor of the province of Judaea and consul. History remembers Silva as the Roman commander who led his army, composed mainly of the Legio X Fretensis, in 72 AD up to Masada and laid siege to its near-impregnable mountain fortress occupied by a group of Jewish rebels called the Sicarii. We have more recently former Presidents of Brazil and Portugal with the surname "Silva," Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Aníbal António Cavacão Silva,respectively.

There is a town named after "me," herein HI ... "Silva." Also some former colonies of Portugal have a town with the surname, like Silva Angola & Mozambique Africa. There are, also others a border town in Northern as well as another in Southern Portugal, a city named, "O'Port Silva," "Silva" or "Silves" as well, supposedly named after the GR8-GR8-GR8-GR8-GR8-GR8-GR8-GR8... Grandfather, who was a Prince of Portugal, circa 11th Century, one of the early founders of the country.
