Hi ,

When you're just starting out with blogging there are a lot of new terms and jargon to deal with. It can be pretty overwhelming!

One of those grey areas is the whole concept of a "self-hosted" blog...

Let me cut out the jargon and break it down for you:

  • If your blog is self-hosted you control the design, domain, and general makeup of the site.
  • If your blog is not self-hosted, the design, domain, and general makeup of the site is controlled by someone else and you will see a website that is only slightly different to the other blogs on the chosen platform.

I unequivocally recommend going for a self-hosted blog from the very first day you start. After all, it can cost you as little as $35 a year with Bluehost and you're not building your audience on someone else's land!

So, what are the best self-hosted blogging platforms available to you?

There are plenty of options; Wix, Weebly, Joomla, and Squarespace to name a few… but my recommendation is WordPress.org.

Here's why:

  • It's the most customizable solution for beginners because it has pre-built themes, plugins, and other customization options that anyone can use to make their website look unique.
  • It's been around for a long time, has a lot of users, and is subsequently built for stability and longevity.
  • Most WordPress.org themes are optimized to help your site rank in search engines without too much technical knowledge.

The only downfall to WordPress.org for beginner's is that you need to have your own domain name and web host to get it set up. Thankfully, companies like Bluehost make this super-easy with their 1-click WordPress installations and ridiculously in-depth library of how-to articles.

Which blogging platform is best? My pick is WordPress.org.

If you haven't already, set up your WordPress site using Bluehost now.

Cheer
