The picture as your avatar in your profile is not yours.

Direct messages can be seen as impersonal and pushy when they aren't written properly. If you decide to use a tool that automatically send messages to your new followers keep it simple and friendly. A message saying ?thanks for following me? is fine, but sending automated messages promoting your business or product is not a good idea and most instances people will click the unfollow button right away.

3) Mistake number three:

Trying to build a huge following before you have done some tweeting.

People will not be interested in following you when they click on your Twitter page to see what you've got, and notice you don't have much. You need to have tweeted more than, "Trying to figure this Twitter out" and "I think I've got it figured out now."

If you don't know what to say, try "retweeting" (RT) some other peoples' tweets that that are related to your niche. Read what other people are tweeting about and reply to them, this will help start up a conversation. Talk about market related news, what you're doing on your business right now. That will give you several tweets to get the ball rolling. 4) Mistake number four:

Tweeting promotion after promotion.

Yes, you are using Twitter to promote your business, but posting one offer after another will only cause people to ?unfollow? you. When people look at your timeline and notice that you aren't posting anything of value to them they will quickly move on.

There are millions of Twitters to follow, why should they follow you when you're only tweeting about promotions? Remember this basic rule of sales "people want to know what's in it for me"? Twitter is a social network and you have to keep that in mind before you post a tweet.

When you are using Twitter for your IM business you must learn how to communicate and build good relationships with your followers before you start sending them with promotions.

I just cleaned out my attic and garage and found that I had a whole pile of stuff I needed to get rid of. I hated the idea of dumping this stuff out by the curb for the garbage collector to pick up, especially since some of these things still had plenty of useful life in them. I had an old mantle clock, some really nice picture frames, some empty suitcases, and a collection of movies I hadn't watched in ages. So rather than junk everything, I decided it was time to sell stuff on eBay.

I'd never really used an online auction site before but I figured it couldn't be too difficult to sell stuff on eBay, so I went over to the site and looked around a bit. No doubt there were plenty of people selling lots of similar items through the auction site, so I knew that I should be able to do so as well. I checked the various categories that eBay has for their listings, and I found that there are a vast number of sections where items can be posted for sale.

After poking around a while I decided that I was ready to get started. Just like many other sites on the Internet, an auction site like eBay is going to require you to set up an account and create a profile before you begin to take advantage of their service. So I decided I would create an account, and it only took me a few minutes to get my information entered and verified, and within no time at all I was ready to sell stuff on eBay.

Next, I had to create some listings for the items I wanted to sell. In order to make that a bit easier on myself, I did a search using eBay's simple search field and found people selling the same sorts of things I had to offer. After all, if I planned to sell stuff on eBay for the first time, I might as well take advantage of other people's experience and expertise, right? Within a half an hour I had found several auction listings that were similar to my own items, and I used these listings as a guide for creating mine. To me, that's a smart way to sell stuff on eBay: find out what works and duplicate it.

In the end, I found that it was pretty darned easy to sell stuff on eBay, and now that I've got the hang of it, I'll probably do it a lot more often. In a matter of a little over a week I sold all but one of those items from the attic and the garage, and I stand to pocket over $100 from things I would have otherwise put out by the curb for the trash collector. To my mind, that's a big win.

IT Marketing: Registration is Very Important

Most seminars that you offer should be free, but to make these IT marketing events successful, always require registration because you have limited seating. The reality is, that because it?s a free event, not everyone is going to show.

Have a check-in at the door, do some kind of survey in exchange for a door prize so you can ask them some questions and tailor the seminar to their interests. Make sure that you actually educate them on the things to look for and watch out for. You will have an easier time generating interest in an educated prospect than an uneducated one.

The registration at the door gets you the all important contact information for potential clients. So, what you should you do after the seminar?

IT Marketing: What to do after the Seminar

Provide a handout that has your contact info and put some kind of limited-time special offer on there. Put the highlights into a short article that you can either hand out or mail to your customers and prospects. See if you can get it published in different places in your local area like your local business journal, chamber newsletters, or organization newsletters. Let anyone publish it who has an interest in educating their members or their readers on how and why they should protect their computers from viruses and security breaches and blackouts.

After the seminar, you can take that article and turn it into a free report that you offer with advertisements.
