Fwd: Crypto got Zucked.

Facebook launches cryptocurrency Libra.

FRIDAY JUNE 21, 2019

Hi jon,

The rumors have finally been confirmed. Facebook is launching a cryptocurrency. The announcement came as expected Tuesday and sent shockwaves around the globe.

Here's what we know so far:

  • Facebook announced the release of a cryptocurrency, Libra, with the goal of enabling "a simple global currency and financial infrastructure that empowers billions of people."
  • The Libra Blockchain is being launched as a permissioned blockchain but is planning to transition to a permissionless blockchain over time.
  • Libra is backed by a mix of stable assets, "including bank deposits and government securities in currencies from stable and reputable central banks." Unlike other stable coins pegged to the U.S. Dollar, Libra isn't backed by one single currency, instead, the average of many.
  • The cryptocurrency is governed by a non-profit (Libra Association) based in Geneva. The Libra Association will be made up of 100+ "geographically distributed and diverse businesses, non-profit and multilateral organizations, and academic institutions."
  • Each founding member will have no more than 1% of the vote, including Facebook itself. Members will be asked to invest $10M, along with $280,000 of annual costs.
  • A user-facing crypto wallet to store and transact Libra, Calibra, is being released.
  • Facebook claims their advertising business will not be a part of Libra in any way, and that data collection will remain separate from the association.

The Fall Out:

In the days following the release, the reviews of the cryptocurrency have been mixed. Many cheered on Libra, calling it positive for crypto adoption, while others expressed outrage.

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire led the charge, saying "it is out of question [that Libra] become a sovereign currency. It can't and it must not happen."

German member of the European Parliament Markus Ferber piled on, calling Libra a "shadow bank" and a handful of U.S. senators also objected, saying Facebook is already too big and can't be trusted with users' financial data.

As a crypto advocate, I believe the response from regulators says something good about Libra. While their concerns are justified, so is Facebook's mission to create a more democratized, global, and digitized economy.

The problem? Trust.

The only solution to this is a cryptocurrency that operates free of a centralized company or group of companies.

Oh, wait, that already exists!

This is the Best-Case Scenario for the G20 Summit...
The problem with cryptocurrencies is that they're all pumped up with hot air.

Facebook's Libra is the best example yet.

Even its name, taken from the zodiac, is based on the element of air.

Here's what's hot and what's not about Libra and why it's true to its element.

In Astrology air is the element that connects all other elements (earth, fire and water), even though it might seem less relevant, invisible as it is.

Facebook, with its constellation of 2.4 billion active users, wants Libra to be the connecting element, as in money, between buyers and sellers of everything up in cyberspace and down here on earth.

Towards that end, Facebook isn't concocting Libra out of thin air, like, say, Bitcoin.

Not even close...

Fwd: Is Couponing Worth It? Are You Wasting Money When You’re Trying To Save?

Hello!

If you've ever watched the show Extreme Couponers, it is amazing to see how much many money people save by couponing. But, with all of the time it takes to find deals and the extra things you may buy, you may be wondering – is couponing worth it?

At one point in my life, I tested my couponing skills. I would get a ton of household goods for nearly free, and that was the main thing that I couponed for, oh the adrenaline rush. I would clip coupons out of newspapers, I read coupon blogs, get mfg coupons for double or triple the savings and more. There were many times when I would walk out of the store with $100+ worth of items, having maybe spent only around $10.00 on all of it.

I wasn't like the people on the TV show, but I definitely loved getting stuff for super cheap and sometimes even free (100% free!).

I was using so much of my time before I realized what was actually happening.

Today, I am much different – I still look for the occasional coupon, such as when shopping online and looking for a promo code. Automation and use of technology, helps.

Still, couponing can save you a decent amount of money on things you need, require and regularly buy.

In some instant you can club it, wherein a group can get economy of size savings to boot. In China for example entire villages do this and get huge savings on necessities via Alibaba or their version of Azon & eBay, combined.  Like, if you always buy a certain laundry detergent and you find a coupon for $1 off, then you are saving $1 or more on days when coupon savings are doubled or tripled, on something you would normally buy at full price.

So, is there a wrong and a right way when it comes to coupons? Can coupons actually hurt you? And, is couponing worth it?

What led me to today's post was an email I recently received from a reader.

She told me that her partner had a couponing problem, and this led to him becoming a hoarder. She told me that whenever he received a coupon, he felt the need to go out and buy the item, whether or not he needed it, then either use the item(s) or donate what was not used. This had led to insane amounts of stress in their relationship, even though she had explained to him multiple times that he had a couponing problem coupled with being a shopaholic.

While couponing can help you save money, it can also cause you to spend more money as well. It's also incredibly time consuming, can cause you to waste things you aren't using, time is money for a lot of people and add unnecessary stress is added to your life. You may determine that the amount of money your are savings vs you time and what you'd get paid for it... is not worth it.

PS.

Extreme Couponing: Do You Really Save or is it a Waste of Time?

Aug 15, 2014 - For those who dedicate time to research and collect coupons a lot of ... Saving is good, but if it costs you more than the actual savings then it's no longer worth it! ... It seems common sense to choose the easier way to put cash in your ..... more efficient ways to allocate your time than "extreme couponing.
