Publish, and be damned! What the first Duke of Wellington can teach you about handling unwelcome printed comments and criticism.

Have you been the recipient of unwelcome or even scurrilous printed comment and criticism? Face it. It's a very irritating thing. You're human. It hurts. Visions of legal recourse, even mafia-style revenge, dance in your head. You have been damaged. They'll be hell to pay.
WHOA!
Before rushing ahead, pause and consider the case of Harriet Wilson and the celebrated Duke of Wellington, victor of Waterloo.
Harriet Wilson (1786-1845) was a Regency courtesan. She was beautiful and knew how to use her charms to maximum advantage. The Prince Regent (later King George IV) headed an A-list of beguiled English gentlemen, including four future prime ministers. The Duke of Wellington appeared prominently on this list.
Alas! Even the most dazzling get old... and charms which were over powering diminish.So it happened with Harriet Wilson. Harriet, however, understood that "kiss and tell" had its advantages. So, enterprising woman that she was, she hired a ghost writer and began to spin tales of the gentlemen she had known, such tales to be included in memoirs which remain in print to this day.
As the chapters were finished, Harriet, ever resourceful, sent them not just to her publisher but to the gentlemen featured therein. Included, almost as an afterthought, was a number in pounds sterling. In other words, Harriet's price for NOT publishing and embarrassing the gentleman and his (sure-to-be-shocked) family.
When the Iron Duke received his chapter and "request", he, a man of sterner disposition than most, penned a line which put Harriet in her place: "Publish, and be damned!" She did... and no doubt she was!
How you should handle unwelcome comments and criticism
1) "Never complain, never explain."
The human animal is often an unthinking animal. People have always said the unwise, made hurtful comments without proof, thought the worst and published it. Nothing new under the sun here. Then enter e-mail and the Internet. Now the nasty, the haters, the merely gossipy and garrulous have the means to run amuck.
Should you find yourself the object of hurtful comments and criticism, on line or off, count to 10 and cool off. The worst time to do anything is when you're hurt and angry. Here Henry Ford II can help with his famous comment listed above. Edward VII's famous lines can also sooth, lines he prominently posted in a mistress' boudoir: "They say. What say they. Let them say."
2) Have you really been damaged, or just your pride hurt?
The truth is, while people generally are quite prepared to believe the worst about any one (Mother Theresa herself was not immune), their interest in you and whatever they've read that you've done is brief and generally unimportant. They have, after all, bigger fish to fry: the details of their own enthralling lives. Beyond this, so much negative information pours forth daily, that even the most assiduous just plain haven't got the time to mull over the nastiness to which you've been subjected.
Thus, ask yourself: has the comment, no matter how negative, actually damaged you, or has it just hurt your pride? Have you been the victim of unsubstantiated comments and criticism (which mean little or nothing), or are the allegations so stated and presented to damage you?
On the Internet, for instance, negative comments are common place. That's bad. The good news, however, for those criticized is that such comments are usually anonymous and unproven, hence toothless.
Such being the case, NO response is appropriate. Let the comment or criticism die a natural death without increasing the number of people knowing about it by responding with even a single word. This is hard advice to follow since it leaves the false accuser unscathed.... but it is nonetheless what you should do: absolutely nothing.
3) You have been materially damaged
Ok, so more than your ego has been damaged. You feel you need to take action.
By all means schedule an appointment with your lawyer. What he'll want to know specifically is how you've been damaged, what the dollar amount of this damage may be, and whether the defendant has resources.
The lawyer (and be quite clear that your lawyer is right for the job) will be hard-headed and direct, focusing the discussion not just on chances of winning... but the financial situation of the attacker. Plain and simple: can he pay for the harm inflicted?
The truth is, many of those posting nasty-grams online are judgement proof. In plain language they are dirt poor and thereby immune from action. Professional haters and dirt dishers, they know this, and it provides one of the few sources of happiness in their shabby lives.
If the lawyer comes to the conclusion that you are better off to grin and bear it, no matter how hurtful the comments, accept this advice. It's to your benefit.
4) Console yourself by considering the company you now keep
EVERY great figure of history has been subject to hurtful comment and nasty criticism: Jesus, Joan of Arc, Martin Luther King, Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln... they have all been hammered by the haters, the mental defectives, the small, the insignificant, the merely crude and vulgar. Now you are amongst their exalted number. You are among the saints who will go marching in!
Remember this: whatever hurtful people may say or publish about you today, you can disprove merely by continuing to be the good person you are. "This, too, shall pass." The Duke of Wellington's reputation, for one, was not tainted by Harriet Wilson's attempt to black mail... but that attempt has permanently tainted Ms. Wilson and made it clear to all the world what kind of person she was.
Now adhere to the old Irish saying, "Living well is the best revenge" and enjoy yourself while your attackers writhe because you have seen the value of ignoring them completely and enjoying yourself instead! Viva!

This week, Google released Google+ Business Pages.
Google+ shares some similarities with the other social media main players (FaceBook, LinkedIn, Twitter) but has unique value of it's own.

It's not a good idea to ignore the giant, so get your Google+ Business page and start making it work for your business. Here's what you need to do to get a Google + Business Pages, then use it to generate interest, traffic and leads for your business.
1. To get your Google+ Business page you will need to set up a free account.
Sign into your Google+ Profile, click on "create a Google+ page". You then pick the category of the page you are creating, and click create. The categories included are: Product/Brand; Company/Institution/Organization, Local business/place; Arts/Entertainment/Sports or Other. According to Google , don't fuss if your business does not fit closely with the categories, they suggest just picking OTHER. Google clarified that at this time only the LOCAL Business listings are handled differently as they include a location map, contact and hours for your business. It's easy and fast to set up.
2. Once you have your Google+ Business Page do this.
a) Post photos! Google likes to index images, and they are hungry for new content. Create a public face for your company by posting pictures that best represent your company, products and services. Don't limit yourself to a picture of your building, or founders, include graphs, mission statement, awards and more. Once your photos are loaded it is easy to share them.
b) Promote! Expand the reach and audience for your Google+ Business page by promoting it to your blog, LinkedIn, Face Book, Twitter and your other social media accounts.
c) Share! Capitalize on the fact that others using Google+ also have circles that connect them to others. Encourage people to share your content with others in their circles for more exposure.
d) Analyze! As smart marketers know, it is not enough to promote, you want to know where you are getting traffic. Google+ provides you with a clever tool for analyzing your traffic and leads generated from Google+
e) Backlinks! Now, here is the part where you really want to pay attention. In your Google+ Business page, you have the option of adding recommended links. You will find this under the ABOUT TAB. This is where you are going to want to include links to your hottest offers to generate leads, traffic and sales!
Finally, if you have a Google Ad Words account you can link it to your Google+ Business page.

1) Start collecting customer data at once
As I have pointed out for years, "the list is the business...and the business
is the list." Start building this all-important list TODAY.

list. Show them how to request this information from all customers, thus:
"Mr. Smith, would you like to receive e-mails from us with tremendous discount
offers? Just fill out this brief form or give me your card with e-mail address."
Add this information to your list at the end of every day. Be consistent!
2) Start brainstorming hot offers today.
For your special "alert" list to work, you must present scintillating offers.
Start collecting them now.
Open a computer file and enter all your sales offers, always concentrating on

of making offers that get your customers to stop in their tracks and head your
way!
Don't hesitate to "swipe" offers from other media sources. Your offer need not
be original to you. It just has to pull.
3) Develop a format.

You have twin goals here: first, you do NOT want to increase your work load by
starting a shipping department; second, you want to increase your in-store
traffic and resulting sales that come when customers drop in.
5) E-mail your offer at a regular time
Your goal, remember, is to increase in-store traffic and sales. Thus, e-mail
your bulletin about 1 hour before you're open. That way you'll have customers
at the door right away... just what you want.
6) E-mail your list at least once a week.
E-mailing regularly is key to your success. Select a day for your e-mail
special offer and adhere to it religiously.
But don't hesitate to e-mail two or even three times a week if you are
announcing great offers and value. Value and great offers determine how often
you should contact your list. Customers will be glad you contacted them... if
the value warrants.
7) Track the offers that work... and the ones that don't.
Over time you'll develop a cornucopia of proven money-makers which you can
profit from while merely copying, pasting and updating. In short fast, easy
money, just the kind you like!
7) Have fun with your list -- and your customers
Business is about relationships. About knowing your customers and them knowing
you. Use your "alert" list to do both.

Author's program note. The lady was persistent, a total pest, never say die, always right there wherever I was. She was. And maybe that's the real reason I'm writing this article today; an article of congratulation, for she's a jolly good fellow, and hip hip hurrah. You see, I've been in this exact situation before with her... not just once or twice, either... let's just say oodles and leave it at that.
And to think she once pulled that woman-in-tears thing on me, begging me to let her go and forbid her from every going on the screen again... that territory she was soon to make all her own, the envy of every man and woman whose smile was not incandescent and who didn't know a million ways to get the prospect off the dime, another sale, sir; another victory lap and for good measure a happy dance or two.
I was brutal, more James Cagney than James Dean. And those tears made me angry, livid, Rhett Butler the night he carried Scarlett up the grand staircase to nirvana... I mean, she wanted to work with me, she said; she wanted to touch the lives of countless millions and improve those lives, she said. She wanted to help little old men across the street and win Girl Scout merit badges for her skill at summer camp leatherwork and beads.
Thus, I let her do what she insisted she wanted... now she was sobbing telling me she wasn't up to the job and wanted out... sheesh... what next! The "what next?" steps went something like this.... Get up, stop crying, get a grip, child, and for the next 7 days be me... a super duper me composed of all your good traits and all of mine. Fly high, don't snivel, and don't lay that "poor lil' me" routine on me.
She hated me at that moment. Was seething inside. Make-up running down her livid cheeks. She wanted to spit in my face; she wanted to say the things that make sailors blush; wanted to tell me I was an effete, spoiled brat whose future lay in the cooking pot of a discerning cannibal with a taste for preppies en brochette. She wanted to say that... and a whole lot more.
And she would have, too, given world enough and time. But I didn't have the time or inclination to stand by and listen to more of her malarkey. Curt, sharp, abrupt, I spat out the only question that mattered at that moment of High Destiny -- for both of us.
It was take-it-or-leave it, spit in the palm of your hand and shake, a gentlemen's agreement between two angry people who were not at that moment gentlemen, either of them, not even remotely close.
And so the greatest and longest-running war on Spaceship Earth -- the war of the sexes -- started a new chapter. She vowed she'd show me... show me she was no quitter; show me she was good, kind, giving, the soul of charity and here's your chicken soup, honey; it'll do you a world of good. Oh, yeah, she'd show me all right... after all nobody, absolutely nobody needed a good taking down more than I did, blah, blah, blah. God, I love my job and every fast-moving spat and altercation.... especially since I was in a no-lose position. If she failed, she'd disappear into the hapless hordes of the also-rans; if she didn't.... oh, mama!
And so the "I'll show you" game began, both battle-scarred veterans; both with a taste for blood... for sweet victory.... and a penchant for the coolest dance music and gyrating limbs worth the look and prolonged, eat-your-heart-out attention. Thus, I give you "Something To Talk About", Bonnie Raitt's 1991 mega-hit. Oh, yeah, she'd show me all right and give everyone on terra firma something to talk about. Go now to any search engine and seize the music that seizes you and puts energetic bounce in your step, every step.
So armed, so ready, fueled by irritation, exasperation and an acute grudge against the ever suave and charming CEO, me, the lady went forth to battle... and history. She was pint-sized but her determination, honed by the challenge I threw down, was not. She was Killer Kowalski in bunny slippers, her hair roots perfectly matched, her vitamin of choice the very best chocolates money could buy. And so, armed by Saint Christopher, she commenced the epic journey of her life, a journey she knew she couldn't lose... absolutely had to win...
The thousand mile journey begins with a single step... and she took it. This is what she did.
Item: She made making daily, even hourly, sales her objective. She didn't just go forth to conquer. She went forth with a specific objective her clear and considered goal.

I've been an online marketer for nearly 18 years, my business partner has been marketing on and offline for over 30 years.
I'm going to tell you what we've learned and know for a fact so you get better results from your advertising NOW.
If you are like most marketers you have a snazzy website that you either spent good money on or you have laboured to build yourself. Now all you have to do is promote it. Right? WRONG! Before you spend one dime to promote your website, read this article. Don't make the same mistake made by 90% of marketers that costs them thousands and thousand of dollars, lost leads and lost sales.
You do NOT want to promote your website as your primary method of generating leads. Here's why.
If your website is like 99% of those I have reviewed, it's copy dense. You've got links, video, flash, offers, affiliates, graphics, pages, charts, forms, RSS Feeds, blogs, Twitter feeds, the Daily Weather, and a little or a lot of other organized chaos. The viewer (your potential buyer) doesn't know here to look, what to click on, it's information OVERLOAD. (This is all great for key word content for Search Engine Optimization or general promotion but NOT the best way for generating leads). The result is immediate. If they don't instantly see what they want they click OFF. Say Goodbye to your lead! You might as well add, "Sorry I wasn't a little more clever about helping you get what you want so I could get what I need." The SMART marketer understands this and says, I want to meet the needs of my viewers. I want to convert my viewers into leads. That means giving your visitors a positive FAST loading experience with an immediate offer and a call to action. This is a very precise experience with a very specific message and directive. How do you this? By creating what is called a Landing Page strictly for promotional purposes.
What is a Landing page? It's also known as a Squeeze page because you are squeeeeezing information from the viewer, converting the looker into an actual lead. The concept is simple, pitch an offer, the looker completes a form. They are enticed by the offer, you get a lead. You've converted a looker into a LEAD!
Why is the promotion of Landing Page(s) INSTEAD of your website critical? It's simple. Keep your potential buyers happy and YOU will get better advertising results. Specifically, a fast-loading landing page that includes a headline with an immediate benefit and a call to action. Example: HERE's what you GET! Followed by punchy benefits of what else they get, concluding with an offer and a lead form.
Now, here is a critical point for all you advertisers who think graphics are the king, that more is better. Take a quick lesson from an experienced marketer (who is also a designer). If you do nothing else to improve your ad copy - get rid of the fancy and weighty images. Often an overabundance of graphics detracts from your marketing message. We have tested boring simple text ads against the exact same ad copy on a rich graphic landing page. Guess what? The simple ugly plain text ads consistently got higher click rates than the graphical ones. We eliminated instant play video, got rid of flash, and used just really good ad copy. Landing pages with no video perform better than those with video. Why is this? Videos can take a while to load and may not add immediate value to what you offer. You often have less than 30 seconds to get your message into the brain of the viewer. Well-chosen key words get in the brain of your potential buyers IMMEDIATELY when time and limited attention is critical. We humans are greedy. This is a fact. We have short attention spans. We want something and we want it now. Smart marketers recognize this and tell people what they can get and how to get it if they act now!
One of the powers of a Landing Page comes from the fact that you can create a specific Landing Page for EVERY product you offer. You can create them quickly and test them. If you create a dud that gets no result, replace it by creating another. Many advertising sources offer an option to pause a campaign which means you can cancel one ad and replace it with another more effective one before your ad dollars are depleted. Compare this to making edits to a web site that can take considerable time for major marketing changes, while a Landing page can be put up and taken down in minutes.
Finally, remember where you are marketing - online. Full page colour graphic ads do well in a full page print ad. My guess is that you don't have the 10 K + for a fully page glossy ad. You are most likely relying on the tried true tested forms of free an low cost advertising like Traffic Exchanges and Safelists. These are powerful ways to promote your product or service and are ideal for simple Landing Pages. In fact you WANT a fast loading simply ad for Safelists and Traffic Exchanges because you have a very limited (20 sec or less) to get these people attention. Keeping it simple is just as effective now as it always has been. Graphics used effectively can bring your ad alive, but very few other than professionals can master this combination of copy and graphics to solicit response.
Ok, I want to make sure I have made this point clear as it is so very important. Use LANDING PAGES to generate leads for specific products or services. Use your website to promote your company in general. Landing Pages are ALL about the reader and turning them into a lead. If you want to stock your website with page after page about product development, research, your years in business, how wonderful you are and your customers think you are, put all of that on your website. Content about your company, products and services is of course valuable for many reasons, post it to your site but don't rely on this as you one and only lead generator.
Now, let's dig a little deeper into your advertising strategy. Look at your ad or your landing page. I mean really look at it.
Do you have a clear benefit headline to get attention. Do you follow this headline up with benefit-laden offers, reason after reason why people have to act now! Do you include an invitation to DO IT NOW offer that will motivate your reader to become a buyer! Or if not a buyer at least to take some action - to respond to your offer, join your newsletter, try a free sample, participate in a free trial. Whatever get them to DO something! You accomplish this with well written offers not with blinking links, and boring videos that take forever to load. Have you included an OPTIN to your company mailing, newsletter, product updates etc? This is a CRITICAL inclusion. A Landing page doubles as a List Building Tool. Do not underestimate this. Landing pages and list building work hand in hand as required marketing tools.
Review your advertising material. Is it about YOU or is it about your potential buyer? If the ad is more about how wonderful you are then about how beneficial your product or service is to the user, you have what is called an EGO ad. Your ad should NOT be about you, or your company, or that you are family owned business, or that you support charities. Your ad has one purpose: to tell people all the benefits of what your product/services offers and why they need to act now to get it! Want a quick lesson in this strategy? Watch late night infomercials. See how these infomercials verbally hit you over the head INSTANTLY with all the BENEFIT OF X product. You are drawn in more and more because they offer you X, then add Y to it. But wait if you buy now you get X, Y and Z too! Watch how they give you the pitch, make the offer, then make a better offer, and than a limited time offer to motivate you into action NOW!! Great marketing offers value and a sense of urgency to get an immediate action.
Ok here is your homework. If you don't have an ad strategy that accomplishes this you have failed your first lesson in online marketing. Go back write it again, take away distraction of video and flash. Whittle your ad down to ONLY what matters to the buyer. Get back to basics. Your goal is always to compel action. Don't risk making anyone wait to see what you offer. Get to the point instantly. Web surfers are easily bored. Get their attention INSTANTLY or they are gone! You may get a hit on your ad, but you can quickly send people away with a poorly thought out advertising strategy. Advertising that does not generate leads and sales will eat up your hard-earned dollars faster than my dog woofs down his doggie chow.

These days people judge you based on your Social Signal without possibly ever having met you. This time, there really may be no second chance to correct the wrong message.
What's your social signal?
It's the vibe, the feeling, the sense that you give off from your social media posts.
It's your online "first impression".
That's right, it used to be said that people made a judgement about you in the first 30 seconds of meeting you.
Now they review your social media posts on Twitter and Facebook and form an impression of you immediately and sometimes permanently.
So think about this in the context of being a business owner. Think about what you are posting or not posting, both reveal something about you and your business.
Negative posts reflect poorly on you not just now. Long after you're gone, negative, impulsive, ill-advised posts or rants can live on.
Not posting or not using social media can also be a problem.
The kinds of things you post online form a picture about you, your personality, your interests, what matters to you, your ideas, beliefs and personal and business philosophies.
And not just to your friends, but to the the world at large, potential employers, your neighbors, associates, customers, friends and family.
Online posts - good and bad - can last forever.
The good news is YOU can control the content. You can create the conversation. You can build a lasting positive Social Signal that conveys the right image for yourself and your company.
One of the downsides to social media is it that it's INSTANT and LASTING. Censor your posts in consideration for the viewpoint of the reader.
What's Your Social Signal? A primer for using social media.
After-all successful business owners know that its more about your customer then just being about you. Positive, honest connections with people lead to more profitable long term business relationships and happy customers.
So what do you post to give off the right Social Signal?
Post and share, tweet or retweet positive, genuine stories, and images.
Share images of yourself, your staff, your community projects, your volunteerism, your products.
Video sharing is encouraged for promoting your company, products and services. Videos don't have to be ultra professional, a simple web cam will do and a sincere script will work. An honest unpolished approach is refreshing and appreciated by a smart public. Search engines gobble up video content, so produce and share good quality videos with useful content.
Be sensitive and thoughtful in your posts in what you say and how you say it. It's a lot easier to take a few moments to consider the best choice of words, then it is to issue an apology - if you even get the chance.
If you comment on other social media posts, make them positive statements, helpful, not negative.
If you have a company blog, produce useful content, images and video to both help your current customers and draw in new customers (and search engine indexers too).
If you are a business owner or consultant, make your posts about your business, present yourself as an expert, whatever it is you know about, share it.
It doesn't matter if you are a dog groomer, or an exterminator, make your social posts work to promote a positive image of you and your services.
In the online stage, helping is not only well advised it makes good business sense. Help your customers, help your prospects, help yourself by creating a positive Social Signal.
I often hear from people who don't see the value of Twitter, or who think Facebook is a waste of time. Ok that's your opinion, and you are welcome to it but understand that the rest of the world IS using those services. Those people are your prospective customers, now and in the future. Those people DO use those services and want to connect with businesses using that medium. You can't ignore this opportunity to grow your business, and reach a worldwide market that is growing and demanding more convenient communication and access. So by NOT having a Facebook account, or a Facebook Fan page for your company or Twitter account, Linked In account, Instagram account and so forth, you are missing out on business opportunities and connections with your customers. In this way NOT posting ALSO plays a role in creating your Social Signal. It sends the wrong signal to your customers that you don't care about connecting with them, that you don't have an online presence, and you aren't keeping up with the times and needs of your customers. It makes your business (and you) look outdated, behind the times, unavailable, unaccountable.
So having read this, ask yourself, "What's my Social Signal" What message am I sending about myself, or my business? How will people judge me based on my social media presence?
Why not make your Social Signal and your online impression the best it can be.

Of course you already have a blog, right? You are, I mean, on the cutting edge of the Internet, yes?
Well, if you are still blog-less today is indeed your lucky day, because I am going to show you right here, right now how to use your blog to get not a few but a positive avalanche of the best prospect leads on earth. And the great thing is, you can start today, this very minute.
Now affirm and reaffirm this: when you're in business, running a business blog, the objective is and always will be to generate terrific prospect leads... and follow them up to make money.
It's easy to forget the objective when you're publishing a blog which can all too easily be seized by the shear joy and vanity of seeing your name in print. Folks, if you need lovin' and crave adulation get a dog. They give unqualified affection. But don't subvert the purpose of your blog.
Nothing sells itself, absolutely nothing.
I have amongst my marketing students some of the very brightest people around... and when they make a mistake, I know the pedestrian run of mankind and marketers are making it, too, in spades.
One of the most rooted errors of these folks is the pernicious, invidious notion that their blog and its contents will sell themselves; that what they are promoting and selling in their blogs needs no introduction, nor powerful words of recommendation; it's good enough on its lonesome.
In a word: rubbish! In two words: complete rubbish!
Dear friend, there is nothing in this world, not the policies and messages of presidents, popes, and sovereign kings; not the very finest example of the most potent of salubrious medications; not the safest swiftest modes of transportation.... absolutely nothing sells itself.
Once you have realized this essential truth of business, you enter a new, higher level of commerce and marketing... for you are now a puffer in the Great Age of Puffery.... and your daily objective is clear: to puff better, more artfully, more carefully, more successfully than any other puffers on this planet. He (or she) who puffs the most, the best, reaps the most.
Thus, say you intend tomorrow to publish a jim dandy article on some subject of note and significance. The duffer puffer, the one on the bottom of the marketing heap, merely publishes the article, with this unvoiced sentiment: "Here's the article. Make of it what you will. I can't be bothered to tell you why you should read it... perhaps I don't even know."
And some dare call this marketing.
Now, try this instead...
(puff the day before you publish the article.)
Tomorrow, you readers have an incredible gift coming. I persuaded internationally known author and commentator Dr. Jeffrey Lant to let me have, in advance of publication, his latest article. And you're frolicking all the way to the bank.
Remember, puffing is not something occasional or episodic. It is not merely one essential thing in marketing; it is the essential thing and it must be regarded accordingly... from this moment on. Let me make this point absolutely, crystal clear:
If you want to sell a product, you must puff it.
If you want to sell your service, you must puff it.
If you want a person to read your blog, you must puff it.
If you want that same person to read an article in that blog, you must puff it.
Get the picture?
A few more hints
Your puffs must appear prominently in your blog, at least 1 at the top of the first page.
They must be short, enticing, action oriented. They must radiate a single imperative message: Look at all you get, look how delicious it is, grab it, grab it now...'
Here's another example.
"Wow! I'm ecstatic to tell you that I've snagged another one of Dr. Lant's superb articles. Yesterday nearly 400 of you smarties emailed me with your thanks, congratulations, and sincere appreciation for his last insightful article. Now I've got another for you. Stay tuned... you'll have it in just HOURS. Make sure to email me at once with your reactions and compliments... it's another winner!!! You can reach me by email (email address here); cell phone (number here)... or land line (number here.) And I want to hear from each and EVERY one of you!"
You must get on with the essential business of puffing each and every day, without exception, that you want money.
And, I guarantee you, that as you improve in your puffery, you will improve your prospect responses, dramatically.
And your bottom line? Why that will improve, too, and dramatically so if and only if you follow up each and every response, as quickly as possible, with a special offer. In other words, thank the respondents, thank them as soon as possible... and always give them a thing (or two) which makes you money. Thus are you benefited as you benefit your fast-responding prospects.
There are many things, of course, which factor into consummate blog success. They include
* having good content, interesting, practical, timely;
* publishing according to a schedule, never missing a deadline;
* writing directly to your readers, always using "you";
* keeping every word of text short, peppy, upbeat,
* and, always and forever, every single day, puffing.
Because if you don't puff, if you do not encourage, recommend, admonish, excite, and motivate you are leaving the crucial act of marketing in the hands of those least able to discern for themselves what to do. That decision must be yours. You and only you must advance the necessary reasons for acting as you want them to act. That crucial aspect of marketing belongs to you... and you must do this every time you want results. Like today.

-Do not use video on your Landing pages. I know you think the video helps, but test after test says, scrap the embedded video in your landing pages! -If you want videos, and don't get me wrong they DO have value, include them on your website but not your landing pages. -Do not use long, dull, oh so boooooring copy that never gets to the point. -Skip the animation, the flashing, the blinking irritation that readers hate and gives reason to click off and terminate your annoying page. -Don't FORGET to include a lead form, to capture contact information
In a nutshell: If you can't write short punchy copy on your Landing pages, list the benefits you are offering point by point then conclude with a compelling offer. Don't forget the # 1 purpose of your Landing Page: to get leads! Give people good reasons to become your prospect. Treat them right, make a pitch, make a bonus offer. They get what they want and you get a valuable lead.
Now go review your Landing Pages and start looking at them like a READER looks at them. Modify the annoying animated ones and get back to basics, powerful copy, eye-grabbing graphics, and a GREAT ABSOLUTELY CANNOT BE REFUSED - DO IT NOW OFFER.

How much did you give away yesterday? How much the day before?
Right this minute, with the worldwide economy in the doldrums and likely to remain so for some time, millions of business owners are scratching their heads for ideas on how to spur crucial sales. All sorts of ideas, from the daft to the expensive, are being advanced.
Yet the solution to getting more sales is plain: Don't just sell your customers something, dazzle them with everything you will give them in addition to the actual product or service they pay for.
Focus the customer on an absolutely stunning offer
Look at everything you sold in the last few days. Were your customers buying products... or were they motivated by offers packed with additional benefits, benefits you were giving away as inducements to motivate faster sales?
In other words, did you make sales because you gave away one thing after another, which made purchasing the items in question an absolute no-brainer?
Start by brain storming what you can give away
Most businesses have NEVER made a systematic effort to determine just what they can give away to induce more sales faster. This, however, is key and must be done at once.
Go through every single product and service you offer. What can you give away:
* more of the product or service * free delivery * free shipping * discount coupons for future sales * a special limited time offer * service and support
Get the picture? Before you can fashion high-octane offers, you must develop a list of EVERYTHING you've got and can give away to motivate more present and future sales.
Study other people's offers and give-aways
The great thing about being in business is that paying attention to what other businesses are doing (and not just competitors either) can benefit you every single day. Thus, wherever you go, review what companies are doing to get your business; can you use or adapt them to your business success?
Develop a "give-away" mentality.
Business, you have been told, is all about closing sales, in other words about "working" the customer. If you buy into this point of view, you're in for a lifetime of drudgery and hard work. STOP IT!
Instead, consider yourself in the business of crafting spectacular bonus offers that enable you to make sales the very easiest way: by so exciting customers about the freebies and great offers they get that they'll do anything to get them!
